Quick Understanding

Comparative (karşılaştırma sıfatı), iki şeyi birbiriyle kıyaslamak için kullanılır ("daha büyük", "daha hızlı"). Superlative (üstünlük sıfatı) ise üç veya daha fazla şey arasında en üstün/en alt olanı belirtmek için kullanılır ("en büyük", "en hızlı"). Sıfatın uzunluğuna göre ya sonuna -er/-est eklenir ya da başına more/most getirilir.

Formula

Kısa sıfat + -er + than (comparative) / the + kısa sıfat + -est (superlative)
more + uzun sıfat + than (comparative) / the most + uzun sıfat (superlative)
as + sıfat + as → eşitlik. not as + sıfat + as → eşit olmama. less/fewer + isim → azlık.

Affirmative / Negative / Question

Comparative (-er)

kısa sıfat + er + thanThis bag is heavier than mine.

Comparative (more)

more + uzun sıfat + thanThis test is more difficult than the last one.

Superlative

the + sıfat(-est) / the most + sıfatHe is the most talented player on the team.

Word Order

Comparative: Özne + be/fiil + sıfat(-er) + than + karşılaştırılan şey. Superlative: Özne + be/fiil + the + sıfat(-est) + [grup/yer].

  • This road is narrower than the old one.Bu yol eski yoldan daha dar.
  • Everest is the highest mountain in the world.Everest dünyadaki en yüksek dağ.

How It Works

When do we use it?

  • Kısa sıfatlarda (1 hece, bazı 2 heceliler) -er/-est: tall → taller → the tallest.
  • Uzun sıfatlarda (2+ hece) more/most: expensive → more expensive → the most expensive.
  • Düzensiz sıfatlarda özel formlar: good → better → the best; bad → worse → the worst.
  • Eşitlik bildirmek için as...as: My brother is as tall as me.
  • Eşit olmadığını bildirmek için not as...as: This book isn't as interesting as the last one.
  • Sayılamayan isimlerde less/least, sayılabilen çoğullarda fewer/fewest: less money, fewer problems.

When DON'T we use it?

-er ile more'u AYNI SIFATTA BİRLİKTE KULLANMA — bir sıfat ya -er alır ya more, ikisi asla aynı anda kullanılmaz.
❌ This film is more better than the last one. → ✅ This film is better than the last one.
Superlative'de "the" UNUTMA — the olmadan superlative eksik kalır.
❌ She is tallest student in the class. → ✅ She is the tallest student in the class.

Short Answers

Hızlı kural: sıfat 1 hece ise → -er/-est. Sıfat 3+ hece ise → more/most. 2 heceli sıfatlarda genelde more/most tercih edilir, ama -y ile bitenler (happy, easy) -ier/-iest alır. Kural hiçbir zaman -er ve more'u AYNI SIFATTA birleştirmez.
Türkçe Mantığı

Zihninde şu sırayla ilerle:

TÜRKÇEDE NE DEMEK İSTİYORUM? → "Bu araba şu arabadan daha hızlı."
↓
KAÇ ŞEY KARŞILAŞTIRIYORUM? → İki şey (bu araba / şu araba) → comparative gerekir
↓
SIFAT KISA MI UZUN MU? → fast (kısa, tek heceli) → -er eklenir
↓
CÜMLE → "This car is faster than that car."

Türkçede "daha" ve "en" kelimeleri sıfatın önüne eklenir ve sıfat hiç değişmez; İngilizcede ise ya sıfatın kendisi değişir (-er/-est) ya da önüne ayrı bir kelime (more/most) gelir — hangisi olacağını sıfatın uzunluğu belirler.

Kısa Sıfatlar (-er / -est)

  • My new phone is bigger than my old one.Yeni telefonum eskisinden daha büyük.
  • January is colder than April in Turkey.Türkiye'de Ocak, Nisan'dan daha soğuktur.
  • She is the fastest runner in our school.Okulumuzdaki en hızlı koşucu o.
  • This is the easiest exercise in the book.Bu, kitaptaki en kolay alıştırma.

Uzun Sıfatlar (more / most)

  • This documentary is more interesting than the last one.Bu belgesel öncekinden daha ilginç.
  • Working from home is more comfortable for me.Evden çalışmak benim için daha rahat.
  • That was the most exciting match of the season.Bu, sezonun en heyecanlı maçıydı.
  • He is the most generous person I know.Tanıdığım en cömert insan o.

Düzensiz Formlar, Eşitlik ve Less/Fewer

  • The weather today is worse than yesterday.Bugün hava dünden daha kötü.
  • This is the best coffee I've ever had.Bu, şimdiye kadar içtiğim en iyi kahve.
  • Our garden is as big as theirs.Bahçemiz onlarınki kadar büyük.
  • This laptop isn't as expensive as that one.Bu dizüstü bilgisayar o kadar pahalı değil.
  • We have fewer students this year than last year.Bu yıl geçen yıldan daha az öğrencimiz var.
  • I have less free time now that I have a job.Artık bir işim olduğu için daha az boş zamanım var.

much/far/a lot gibi kelimelerle comparative güçlendirilir, "the more...the more" gibi ileri kalıplar kullanılır.

This city is far bigger than mine. The bigger the city, the busier it gets.

Common Mistakes

❌ This exercise is more easier than the last one.
✅ This exercise is easier than the last one.
WHY? Türkçede "daha" tek kelimedir ve mantıken "iki kere vurgu" yapmak akla gelebilir, ama İngilizcede -er ve more aynı işi yapar; ikisi bir arada asla kullanılmaz.
❌ She has more good English than her brother.
✅ She speaks English better than her brother.
WHY? "good" sıfatının düzensiz comparative formu "better"dır; more good diye bir yapı yoktur, düzensiz sıfatlar ezberlenmelidir.
❌ He is tallest boy in the class.
✅ He is the tallest boy in the class.
WHY? Türkçede "en" kelimesinden önce ayrı bir tanımlık gerekmez, ama İngilizcede superlative her zaman "the" ile kullanılır.
❌ This bag is as heavy than that one.
✅ This bag is as heavy as that one.
WHY? "than" sadece -er/more yapılarında kullanılır; eşitlik bildiren as...as yapısında her iki tarafta da "as" kullanılır, than değil.
❌ We have less friends than before. (sayılabilen isimle less kullanımı)
✅ We have fewer friends than before.
WHY? Türkçede "az" hem sayılabilen hem sayılamayan isimlerle aynı kelimeyle kullanılır ("az arkadaş", "az para"), ama İngilizcede sayılabilen çoğullarla fewer, sayılamayan isimlerle less kullanılır.
