Quick Understanding

Bu derste iki farklı ama sık karıştırılan zamir grubunu öğreneceksin: one/ones, another/other/others gibi zamirler bir ismin tekrarını önlemek için kullanılır; each other/one another ise iki veya daha fazla kişinin birbirine yaptığı eylemi anlatır. Someone, anything, nobody gibi belgisiz zamirler de kim/ne olduğu belli olmayan kişi ve şeyleri anlatır.

Formula

a/an + sıfat + one (tekil) | sıfat + ones (çoğul)
another + tekil isim | other + çoğul isim | others (isimsiz)
özne(ler) + fiil + each other / one another
some-/any-/no-/every- + -one/-body/-thing/-where → belgisiz zamirler

Affirmative / Negative / Question

one / ones

a/an + sıfat + onesıfat + ones (çoğul)I'll take the red one.

Word Order

one/ones bir sıfattan sonra ismin yerine geçer; another/other tam bir sıfat gibi isimden önce gelir; each other/one another ise fiilden sonra, nesne konumunda kullanılır.

  • I don't like this jacket. Show me a cheap one.Bu ceketi beğenmedim. Bana ucuz bir tane göster.
  • They always help each other with homework.Ödevlerinde her zaman birbirine yardım ederler.

How It Works

When do we use it?

  • one/ones — daha önce geçen sayılabilir bir ismin yerine geçer: I need a pen. Can you give me one?
  • another — "bir tane daha / farklı bir tane" (tekil): This coffee is cold. Can I have another?
  • other + çoğul isim — "diğer" anlamında sıfat gibi kullanılır: Some students passed; other students failed.
  • others — isim almadan, tek başına "diğerleri" anlamındadır: Some people like tea; others like coffee.
  • the other(s) — belirli, sınırlı bir grubun kalan kısmı: I have two brothers; one lives in Ankara, the other lives in İzmir.
  • each other / one another — iki veya daha fazla kişinin birbirine yaptığı karşılıklı eylem: They hugged each other at the airport.
  • belgisiz zamirler (someone, anything, nobody...) — kim/ne olduğu belirtilmeyen kişi/şey: Someone left this bag here.

When DON'T we use it?

Another'ı çoğul isimle KULLANMA — another her zaman tekildir.
❌ I need another books. → ✅ I need another book. / I need other books.
Each other'ı tek bir kişi için KULLANMA — each other en az iki kişi/şey arasındaki karşılıklı eylemi ister.
❌ She looked at each other in the mirror. → ✅ She looked at herself in the mirror.

Short Answers

Hızlı hatırlatma: one=tekil yerine geçer, ones=çoğul yerine geçer, another=bir tane daha/farklı (tekil), other+çoğul isim=diğer, others=diğerleri (tek başına), each other/one another=birbirine.

Zihninde şu sırayla ilerle:

TÜRKÇEDE NE DEMEK İSTİYORUM? → "Bu çanta eski, yeni bir tane alacağım."

AYNI İSMİ TEKRAR ETMEK İSTEMİYORUM → "çanta" kelimesini tekrarlamak yerine yerine geçecek bir kelime lazım

One / Ones

  • I lost my umbrella, so I bought a new one.Şemsiyemi kaybettim, bu yüzden yeni bir tane aldım.
  • These shoes are too small. Do you have bigger ones?Bu ayakkabılar çok küçük. Daha büyük olanlar var mı?
  • Which cake would you like — the chocolate one or the lemon one?Hangi pastayı istersin — çikolatalıyı mı limonluyu mu?

Another / Other / Others

  • This shirt doesn't fit. Can you bring me another?Bu gömlek üzerime olmadı. Bana başka bir tane getirebilir misin?
  • Some tourists visited the museum; other tourists preferred the beach.Bazı turistler müzeyi ziyaret etti; diğer turistler ise sahili tercih etti.
  • I have three cousins: one is a doctor, another is a teacher, and the others work in banking.Üç kuzenim var: biri doktor, bir diğeri öğretmen, kalanları ise bankacılıkta çalışıyor.
  • Some employees finished the report; others are still working on it.Bazı çalışanlar raporu bitirdi; diğerleri hâlâ üzerinde çalışıyor.

Each other / One another & Belgisiz Zamirler

  • The two neighbours have known each other for twenty years.İki komşu birbirini yirmi yıldır tanıyor.
  • Members of the team supported one another during the tournament.Takım üyeleri turnuva boyunca birbirini destekledi.
  • Someone knocked on the door late last night.Dün gece geç saatte biri kapıyı çaldı.
  • I couldn't find anything interesting in the shop.Dükkânda ilginç hiçbir şey bulamadım.
  • Nobody answered the phone at the office.Ofiste kimse telefona cevap vermedi.

Common Mistakes

❌ I need another pens for the exam.
✅ I need other pens for the exam. / I need another pen for the exam.
WHY? Türkçede "başka" hem tekil hem çoğulla kullanılabildiği için öğrenciler "another"ı çoğul isimle kullanma hatası yapar; oysa another her zaman tekildir, çoğul için other kullanılır.
❌ This bag is expensive. I want the cheap.
✅ This bag is expensive. I want the cheap one.
WHY? Türkçede sıfat tek başına isim yerine geçebilir ("ucuzunu istiyorum"), ama İngilizcede sıfattan sonra one/ones eklenmezse cümle eksik kalır.
❌ Some students like maths, the others like art.
✅ Some students like maths, others like art.
WHY? "the others" belirli, sınırlı bir grubun KALANINI anlatır; genel bir karşılaştırmada (bazıları... diğerleri...) "the" olmadan sadece "others" kullanılır.
❌ He talked to himself for hours on the phone with his brother.
✅ He and his brother talked to each other for hours on the phone.
WHY? "Kendi kendine" (himself) ile "birbirine" (each other) karıştırılır; each other en az iki farklı kişi arasındaki karşılıklı eylemi anlatır, himself tek kişinin kendine yaptığı eylemi anlatır.
❌ Nobody don't know the answer.
✅ Nobody knows the answer.
WHY? nobody/no one gibi belgisiz zamirler zaten olumsuz anlam taşır; cümlede ikinci bir olumsuzluk eki (don't) eklenmez, çünkü İngilizcede çift olumsuzluk kullanılmaz.
