The Structure

Formula

be (uygun zamanda) + V3
Etken: My sister ate the cake. → Edilgen: The cake was eaten (by my sister).
Active
My sister ate the cake.
Passive
The cake was eaten (by my sister).

Affirmative / Negative / Question

Affirmative

English is spoken here.The letter was sent.

How It Works

When do we use it?

  • Eylemi yapan bilinmiyor: My wallet was stolen.
  • Eylemi yapan önemli değil: This product is made in Turkey.
  • Bilimsel/resmi/haber dili: The results were announced yesterday.
  • Etkilenen kişi/şey cümlenin odağı: The bridge was built in 1932.

When DON'T we use it?

Eylemi yapan kişi CÜMLENİN ASIL ODAĞIYSA passive kullanma — active daha doğal ve nettir.
❌ The cake was baked by my mother for my birthday. (eğer asıl mesaj "annem" ise) → ✅ My mother baked the cake for my birthday.

Active

Eylemi yapan cümlenin odağı.

Common Mistakes

❌ The window was broke by the boy.
✅ The window was broken by the boy.
WHY? Passive'de V2 değil V3 (past participle) kullanılır: break → broken.
❌ English is speaking in many countries.
✅ English is spoken in many countries.
WHY? Passive formülü be + V3'tür, be + V-ing değil (o passive continuous farklı bir yapı: is being spoken).
❌ The report was written by someone.
✅ The report was written.
WHY? Eylemi yapan bilinmiyor/önemli değilse "by someone/by people" gibi belirsiz agent'lar genelde ATILIR.
❌ The letter was wrote yesterday.
✅ The letter was written yesterday.
TÜRKÇE MANTIK: Düzensiz fiillerin V2 (wrote) ve V3 (written) hâlleri farklıdır — passive'de her zaman V3 kullanılır.

"by" her zaman gerekir mi?

Hayır. Sadece eylemi yapanı söylemek önemliyse: The book was written by Orhan Pamuk. "by someone/people" gereksizdir.
