Quick Understanding

Reported questions, birinin sorduğu bir soruyu başka birine aktarırken kullanılır. Evet/hayır soruları için if ya da whether, wh- soruları için ise sorudaki wh- kelimesi (what, where, why, who...) kullanılır. En önemli fark: dolaylı soruda cümle, düz cümle (özne + fiil) sırasıyla kurulur — soru cümlesindeki devrik yapı (auxiliary + subject) KAYBOLUR.

The Structure

Formula

S + asked/wondered/wanted to know + if/whether + S + V (düz cümle sırası)
S + asked/wondered + wh- kelimesi + S + V (düz cümle sırası)
do/does/did yardımcı fiili dolaylı soruda KULLANILMAZ; ana fiil doğrudan özneden sonra gelir ve gerekirse zaman kayar (backshift).

Word Order

Soru kelimesi/if-whether — Özne — Fiil (düz cümle sırası, devrik değil, soru işareti yok)

  • He asked me if I was tired.Yorgun olup olmadığımı sordu.
  • I wondered what she wanted.Ne istediğini merak ettim.

How It Works

When do we use it?

  • evet/hayır soruları → if/whether: soruda yes/no cevabı bekleniyorsa. "Are you coming?" → He asked if I was coming.
  • wh- soruları → aynı wh- kelimesi: what, where, when, why, who, which, how. "What time is it?" → She asked what time it was.
  • zaman kayması (backshift): reporting verb geçmiş zamandaysa fiil de bir zaman geriye kayar (present→past, past→past perfect gibi), tıpkı reported statements'ta olduğu gibi. "Where do you work?" → He asked where I worked.
  • devrik yapının kaybolması: soru cümlesindeki auxiliary+subject sırası, dolaylı anlatımda subject+verb'e döner ve do/does/did yardımcı fiili düşer. "Did she call?" → He asked if she had called.

When DON'T we use it?

dolaylı soruda devrik yapıyı KORUMA: reported question, bir soru cümlesi gibi değil düz bir cümle gibi kurulur.
❌ She asked me where was I going. → ✅ She asked me where I was going.
reported question'a soru işareti VE "that" EKLEME: reported question bir soru işaretiyle bitmez, ayrıca that ile başlamaz (if/whether veya wh- kelimesi yeterlidir).
❌ He asked that where I lived? → ✅ He asked where I lived.

Short Answers

Hızlı kural: reported question'da (1) soru işareti YOK, (2) do/does/did YOK, (3) devrik kelime sırası YOK — sadece özne + fiil düz sırayla gelir, tıpkı normal bir cümlede olduğu gibi.
Türkçe Mantığı

Zihninde şu sırayla ilerle:

DOĞRUDAN SORU NE? → "Where do you live?"
↓
EVET/HAYIR SORUSU MU, WH- SORUSU MU? → wh- sorusu ("where")
↓
KELİME SIRASI NASIL DEĞİŞİR? → "do you live" (devrik) → "you live" (düz cümle sırası)
↓
CÜMLE → "She asked me where I lived."

Evet/Hayır Soruları

  • "Do you speak Spanish?" → He asked if I spoke Spanish.İspanyolca konuşup konuşmadığımı sordu.
  • "Have you finished the report?" → She asked whether I had finished the report.Raporu bitirip bitirmediğimi sordu.
  • "Is the shop open?" → I asked if the shop was open.Dükkânın açık olup olmadığını sordum.

Wh- Soruları

  • "Where do you live?" → He asked me where I lived.Nerede yaşadığımı sordu.
  • "What time does the film start?" → She asked what time the film started.Filmin saat kaçta başladığını sordu.
  • "Why did you leave early?" → They asked why I had left early.Neden erken ayrıldığımı sordular.
  • "Who called you last night?" → I wondered who had called me.Beni gece kim aradı diye merak ettim.

Karma / Zaman Kayması

  • "How long have you lived here?" → He asked how long I had lived there.Ne zamandır orada yaşadığımı sordu.
  • "Will you come to the party?" → She asked if I would come to the party.Partiye gelip gelmeyeceğimi sordu.
  • "Can you help me?" → He asked if I could help him.Ona yardım edip edemeyeceğimi sordu.
  • "What are you doing?" → She wondered what I was doing.Ne yaptığımı merak etti.

Common Mistakes

❌ She asked me where was I going.
✅ She asked me where I was going.
WHY? dolaylı soruda devrik yapı (aux+subject) korunmaz; özne+fiil düz sırayla gelir.
❌ He asked me did I like the film.
✅ He asked me if I liked the film.
WHY? evet/hayır sorularında do/does/did düşer ve yerine if/whether gelir; do/does/did'in kendisi dolaylı soruda kullanılmaz.
❌ She asked that where I worked.
✅ She asked where I worked.
WHY? reported question'da "that" kullanılmaz; wh- kelimesi veya if/whether tek başına yeterlidir.
❌ He asked me where did I live?
✅ He asked me where I lived.
WHY? reported question bir soru cümlesi değildir, düz bir cümle gibi biter — sonunda soru işareti olmaz, did gibi bir yardımcı fiil de olmaz.
❌ I wondered what does she want.
✅ I wondered what she wanted.
WHY? "does" hem gereksizdir hem de devrik sıra yaratır; ayrıca reporting verb geçmişteyse fiil de zaman kayması yaşayarak past'e döner.
