Quick Understanding

Bir emri ya da ricayı başkasına aktarırken "that" cümlesi değil, tell/ask + kişi + to-infinitive kalıbı kullanılır. Emirler için genellikle tell sb to do sth, nazik ricalar için ask sb to do sth tercih edilir. Olumsuz emir/rica için not to + fiil kullanılır.

S + told/asked + Object + NOT to + V (olumsuz)
"not", asla "to"dan sonra değil, "to"dan HEMEN ÖNCE gelir: told me not to go (doğru), told me to not go (yanlış/gayrı resmi).

How It Works

When do we use it?

  • tell sb to do sth: kesin bir emir/talimat aktarırken. The teacher told us to be quiet.
  • ask sb to do sth: nazik bir rica aktarırken. She asked me to open the window.
  • order/warn/advise sb to do sth: tell'e benzer ama daha spesifik bir ton katan diğer fiillerle de aynı kalıp kullanılabilir. He ordered the soldiers to retreat.
  • negatif infinitive (not to): olumsuz bir emir/rica aktarılırken "not" doğrudan "to"nun önüne gelir. She told him not to be late.

When DON'T we use it?

tell/ask'ten sonra "that" cümlesi ile emir aktarma: emir/rica aktarırken that-clause değil to-infinitive kullanılır.
❌ He told me that close the door. → ✅ He told me to close the door.
tell'i nesnesiz (object'siz) KULLANMA: tell, bir kişi (object) olmadan kullanılamaz; kişi belirtmeden konuşurken say kullanılmalıdır.
❌ He told to close the door. → ✅ He told me to close the door. / He said to close the door (daha az yaygın).

Short Answers

Hızlı kural: tell ve ask MUTLAKA bir kişi (object) ister — sonra to + fiil gelir. Olumsuzda "not", to'dan hemen önce durur: not to go, not to worry, not to be late.

Emirler (Commands)

  • "Sit down!" → The teacher told the students to sit down.Öğretmen öğrencilere oturmalarını söyledi.
  • "Turn off your phones." → The pilot told the passengers to turn off their phones.Pilot yolculara telefonlarını kapatmalarını söyledi.
  • "Stand back!" → The police officer ordered the crowd to stand back.Polis memuru kalabalığa geri çekilmelerini emretti.

Ricalar (Requests)

  • "Could you help me, please?" → She asked me to help her.Ona yardım etmemi rica etti.
  • "Please close the window." → He asked his sister to close the window.Kız kardeşinden pencereyi kapatmasını rica etti.
  • "Can you wait a moment?" → The receptionist asked us to wait a moment.Resepsiyonist bizden bir dakika beklememizi rica etti.

Olumsuz Emir/Rica

  • "Don't touch that!" → She told the child not to touch it.Çocuğa ona dokunmamasını söyledi.
  • "Please don't be late." → I asked him not to be late.Ondan geç kalmamasını rica ettim.
  • "Don't worry about it." → She told me not to worry about it.Onun için endişelenmememi söyledi.
  • "Don't forget your passport." → He reminded me not to forget my passport.Pasaportumu unutmamamı hatırlattı.

Common Mistakes

❌ He told me that close the window.
✅ He told me to close the window.
WHY? emir/rica aktarımında that-clause değil to-infinitive kullanılır; that ile fiil çekimli bir cümle beklenir, emirlerde bu doğru değildir.
❌ She said me to sit down.
✅ She told me to sit down.
WHY? say, doğrudan kişi (object) alamaz; kişi belirtmek için tell kullanılmalıdır (bkz. Say vs Tell dersi).
❌ He told me to not go outside.
✅ He told me not to go outside.
WHY? olumsuz infinitive'de "not", "to"nun önüne gelir, arasına değil.
❌ He told to leave the room.
✅ He told them to leave the room.
WHY? tell fiili mutlaka bir nesne (kime söylendiği) ister; nesnesiz kullanılamaz.
❌ She asked me closing the door.
✅ She asked me to close the door.
WHY? ask sb + gerund değil, ask sb + to-infinitive kalıbı kullanılır.
