Quick Understanding

say ve tell dışında, İngilizcede birinin söylediklerini aktarırken daha spesifik anlam taşıyan fiiller de kullanılır: advise (tavsiye etmek), warn (uyarmak), remind (hatırlatmak), promise (söz vermek), refuse (reddetmek), suggest/recommend (önermek), deny (inkâr etmek), admit (kabul etmek), accuse (suçlamak), persuade (ikna etmek). Her birinin kendine özgü bir grameri (kalıbı) vardır — bu yüzden tek tek ezberlenmelidir.

The Structure

Formula

Grup 1 (+ sb + to V): advise / warn / remind / persuade
Grup 2 (+ to V, nesnesiz): promise / refuse
Grup 3 (+ V-ing / + that): suggest / recommend / deny / admit
Grup 4 (+ sb + of + V-ing): accuse
warn ayrıca ikinci bir kalıp olarak "+ sb + about/against + V-ing" da alabilir: warn sb about the risks / warn sb against doing sth.

Word Order

Fiile göre değişir: bazılarında Özne — Fiil — Kişi — to+V (advise, warn, remind, persuade); bazılarında Özne — Fiil — V-ing/that (suggest, recommend, deny, admit); accuse'da ise Özne — accuse — Kişi — of + V-ing.

  • The doctor advised him to rest for a week.Doktor ona bir hafta dinlenmesini tavsiye etti.
  • She accused her colleague of lying.Meslektaşını yalan söylemekle suçladı.

How It Works

When do we use it?

  • + sb + to-infinitive: advise, warn, remind, persuade. She advised me to see a doctor.
  • + to-infinitive (nesnesiz): promise, refuse. He refused to answer the question.
  • + gerund veya that-clause: suggest, recommend, deny, admit. He suggested going by train. / He admitted taking the money.
  • + sb + of + gerund: accuse. They accused him of cheating.
  • warn'ın ikinci kalıbı: + sb + about/against + gerund: She warned us against trusting him.

When DON'T we use it?

suggest/recommend'i to-infinitive ile KULLANMA: bu fiiller gerund veya that-clause ister, to-infinitive almazlar.
❌ I suggest to go by car. → ✅ I suggest going by car. / I suggest that we go by car.
accuse'u "of" olmadan KULLANMA: accuse sb, mutlaka "of + gerund/isim" ister.
❌ They accused him to steal the money. → ✅ They accused him of stealing the money.

Short Answers

Hızlı kural: "of" görürsen → accuse. "-ing" (gerund) görürsen ve nesne yoksa → suggest/recommend/deny/admit. Nesne + to varsa → advise/warn/remind/persuade. Nesnesiz + to varsa → promise/refuse.

Zihninde şu sırayla ilerle:

TÜRKÇEDE NE DEMEK İSTİYORUM? → "Geç kalmayı inkâr etti."
↓
HANGİ FİİL? → deny (inkâr etmek)
↓
DENY HANGİ YAPIYI İSTER? → deny + gerund (-ing), "to" ASLA gelmez
↓
CÜMLE → "He denied being late."

  • The teacher advised us to review the whole chapter before the exam.Öğretmen sınavdan önce tüm bölümü gözden geçirmemizi tavsiye etti.
  • She warned him to be more careful with his money.Parasına daha dikkatli olması konusunda onu uyardı.
  • I reminded my brother to pick up the dry cleaning.Kardeşime kuru temizlemeyi almasını hatırlattım.
  • The salesman persuaded her to buy the more expensive model.Satıcı onu daha pahalı modeli almaya ikna etti.

Nesnesiz To-V / Gerund Alan Fiiller

  • He promised to finish the project by Friday.Projeyi cuma gününe kadar bitirmeye söz verdi.
  • She refused to apologize for what she had said.Söylediği şey için özür dilemeyi reddetti.
  • I suggest leaving before the traffic gets worse.Trafik daha da kötüleşmeden çıkmamızı öneriyorum.
  • The doctor recommended cutting down on sugar.Doktor şeker tüketimini azaltmayı önerdi.

Deny, Admit ve Accuse Kalıpları

  • He denied taking the money from the drawer.Çekmeceden parayı aldığını inkâr etti.
  • She finally admitted making a serious mistake.Sonunda ciddi bir hata yaptığını kabul etti.
  • The manager accused the employee of leaking company information.Müdür, çalışanı şirket bilgilerini sızdırmakla suçladı.
  • He warned his son against trusting strangers online.Oğlunu internette yabancılara güvenmemesi konusunda uyardı.

Common Mistakes

❌ I suggest to leave early.
✅ I suggest leaving early. / I suggest that we leave early.
WHY? suggest to-infinitive almaz; gerund (-ing) ya da that-clause ister.
❌ She admitted to steal the car.
✅ She admitted stealing the car.
WHY? admit ve deny to-infinitive almaz; her zaman gerund (-ing) ile kullanılır.
❌ He promised me arriving early.
✅ He promised to arrive early.
WHY? promise, gerund (-ing) değil to-infinitive ister; ayrıca eylemi yapacak olan hep ÖZNEDİR (advise/persuade'deki gibi başka bir kişi değil), bu yüzden 'me' eklemeye de gerek yoktur.
❌ They accused him to steal the documents.
✅ They accused him of stealing the documents.
WHY? accuse sb, mutlaka "of + gerund" ister; to-infinitive kullanılmaz.
❌ She warned to be careful on the ice.
✅ She warned us to be careful on the ice.
WHY? warn + to-infinitive kalıbında bir kişi (object) zorunludur; advise, remind, persuade gibi.
