C1'de I wish / If only / It's high time yapılarını görmüştün.

Every nation, be it ancient or newly formed, constructs a version of its own past that it can live with. Historians increasingly insist that this process be examined as carefully as the events it claims to record — for collective memory is rarely a neutral archive. It is, more often, a contested narrative, shaped as much by what a society chooses to forget as by what it remembers.
It is essential that this distinction be understood: history is what happened; collective memory is what a society has decided is worth enshrining. Monuments are raised, anniversaries observed, textbooks written — and in each of these acts, a quiet argument is made about which version of events deserves to survive. Where a nation's past includes episodes of violence or injustice, officials frequently propose that the record not dwell on them, preferring instead a narrative of unbroken progress.
Suffice it to say that this selective amnesia rarely serves the descendants of those who suffered. Truth commissions in dozens of countries have demanded that painful chapters be reckoned with rather than whitewashed, arguing that reconciliation without honesty is merely amnesia dressed up as healing. Be that as it may, the political appetite for such reckoning is often thin; comfortable myths, once deeply ingrained, are not easily dislodged.
Come what may in the decades ahead, the argument over whose history gets told — and whose gets quietly edited out — will remain one of the most consequential a society can have with itself. If truth be told, a nation that cannot reckon honestly with its past is unlikely to navigate its future with any greater clarity.
