In Theme 10, you will explore Classroom Life and Learning with Technology: the tools we use in class, how apps and online platforms help us learn, and what future classrooms might look like. You will learn to talk about tools and processes with the passive voice (future tenses and modals), talk about doing things alone with reflexive pronouns, and link your ideas clearly with connecting words for cause, effect, contrast and time.

Kuralı ezberleme; örneklerden kendin keşfet.
In these sentences, who or what does the action? What form of the verb comes after will be / can be / must be?
Look at the Notice sentences again. Complete the rule with the words in the box.
Well done! You found the rule yourself. Now let's use it.
Use the cues to write passive sentences about classroom technology. Look at the example first.
✓ New laptops will be given to students next term.
The software must be updated every month.
Homework can be uploaded to the platform.
The whiteboard should be cleaned after each lesson.
Will all devices be charged before class?
Classroom robots may be used in the next ten years.
Write three sentences about the technology in your future classroom using will be / can be / must be + past participle.
We use the passive with future tenses and modals to focus on the action itself, not on who does it. Form: will be / modal (can, must, should, may) + be + past participle.
TRGelecek zamanda veya modal fiillerle edilgen çatı, eylemi yapan kişiden çok eylemin kendisini vurgulamak için kullanılır. Yapı: will be / modal (can, must, should, may) + be + fiilin 3. hâli (past participle).
We use it when who does the action is unknown or unimportant, especially for rules, instructions, and future developments about technology.
TRKimin yaptığı önemli değilse ya da bilinmiyorsa, kural/plan/talimat anlatırken (özellikle teknoloji kuralları, kurallar, gelecekteki gelişmeler) kullanılır.
Don't forget 'be' after will: will be + past participle.
TRwill'den sonra 'be' unutulmamalı: will be + V3.
Modals also need 'be': modal + be + past participle.
TRModal fiillerden sonra da 'be' gerekir: modal + be + V3.
Etken (active) cümlede eylemi yapan özne başta olur: 'The school will give new tablets.' Edilgen (passive) cümlede eylemi alan şey özne olur: 'New tablets will be given (by the school).' Kim yaptığı önemsizse ya da belliyse 'by' genelde atılır.
What do these -self / -selves words show? Who do they refer back to?
Look at the Notice sentences again. Complete the rule with the words in the box.
Well done! You found the rule yourself. Now let's use it.
Complete the sentences with the correct reflexive pronoun. Look at the example first.
✓ I set up the projector myself.
She recorded a video presentation herself.
The app updates itself every night.
We designed our project website ourselves.
The students solved the technical problem themselves.
Write two sentences about things you did yourself with technology (for example, fixing a device, learning an app, or making a presentation).
Reflexive pronouns show that the person doing the action and the person affected by it are the same: myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves.
TRDönüşlü zamirler (reflexive pronouns), eylemi yapan kişi ile eylemden etkilenen kişinin aynı olduğunu gösterir: myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves.
We use them to emphasise that someone did something without help, or with certain verbs that need an object referring back to the subject (teach, enjoy, hurt, repair, etc.).
TRBir şeyi başkasının yardımı olmadan yaptığımızı vurgulamak için ya da 'kendine' anlamı taşıyan fiillerle (enjoy, teach, hurt, repair vb.) kullanılır.
Add -s/-es to the verb with he/she/it; the reflexive pronoun doesn't change the verb form.
TRhe/she/it ile fiile -s/-es eklenmeli; dönüşlü zamir fiilin sonuna eklenmez.
Use 'ourselves' with a plural subject like we, not 'ourself'.
TRÇoğul özne (we) ile 'ourselves' kullanılır, 'ourself' değil.
Which words give a reason (cause)? Which show a result (effect)? Which show a contrast? Which show time order?
Look at the Notice sentences again. Complete the rule with the words in the box.
Well done! You found the rule yourself. Now let's use it.
Join the two ideas with the connecting word given. Look at the example first.
✓ I couldn't charge my tablet because the battery died.
The app crashed, so we lost our project file.
Although technology is useful, it can be distracting.
You must download the app before you can join the online lesson.
When the robot finishes the task, it will send a message.
Write two sentences about technology in your classroom using two different connecting words (one for cause/effect, one for contrast/time).
Connecting words join two ideas: because/so (cause-effect), although/but (contrast), after/before/when (time order). They make our sentences clearer and our writing more fluent.
TRBağlaçlar iki fikri birbirine bağlar: because/so (sebep-sonuç), although/but (zıtlık), after/before/when (zaman sırası). Cümlenin anlamını netleştirmek ve daha akıcı yazmak için kullanılır.
We use them to explain the cause, effect, contrast or time order of events, especially in project presentations and written texts.
TRBir olayın nedenini, sonucunu, bir zıtlığı veya olayların sırasını açıklarken, özellikle proje sunumları ve yazılı metinlerde kullanılır.
A 'because' clause at the start of a sentence is joined to the main clause with a comma, not a full stop.
TR'Because' cümlesi başta kullanıldığında virgülle ana cümleye bağlanır, ayrı cümle olmaz.
Don't use 'although' and 'but' together in the same sentence.
TR'Although' ve 'but' aynı cümlede birlikte kullanılmaz.
Although (zıtlık: 'her ne kadar…') ile because (sebep: 'çünkü') anlamca birbirinin tersidir — 'Although it rained, we went out' ile 'Because it rained, we stayed home' farklı sonuçlar verir.

Özgün metin ve anlama soruları.
Our school opened a new smart classroom this year, and I was one of the first students to try it. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the huge interactive whiteboard at the front. It isn't just a screen — you can touch it, write on it, and even play educational games on it.
Every student has a small tablet connected to the classroom's wireless network. Worksheets are never printed on paper anymore; instead, they are downloaded from the school's online platform at the start of the lesson. If a device runs out of battery, there is a charger under every desk.
During our science lesson, the teacher used the projector to show a 3D model of the solar system. It looked almost like a hologram floating above the desks! Although the equipment is expensive, our headteacher says it will be upgraded again next year with new, more innovative tools.
Of course, technology sometimes causes problems. Last week, the Wi-Fi went down, so we couldn't upload our homework on time. Because of this, our teacher taught us to always keep a backup copy. Students must also charge their tablets themselves every night — nobody does it for us!
I really enjoy learning in the smart classroom because lessons feel more interactive and modern. However, I still think a good teacher is more important than any device, no matter how advanced it is.

Two weeks ago, my English teacher recommended a new vocabulary app for our class project. At first, I found it a little confusing, but I taught myself how to use it in about ten minutes by watching a short video.
Every evening, I open the app on my phone and review ten new words. The app updates my progress automatically, so I can see exactly which words I need to practise again. Because the app tracks my mistakes, it gives me more practice with the words I find difficult.
Although I enjoy the app, it isn't perfect. Sometimes it needs an internet connection, so I can't use it on the school bus where there is no Wi-Fi. When this happens, I use paper flashcards instead — an old method that still works well!
For our technology project, our group decided to create a short guide for other students about using learning apps responsibly. We explained that apps are a great tool, but students shouldn't only rely on a screen; talking to real people is important too.
After two weeks, I can say the app really helped me learn new words faster. I will keep using it, but I will also keep talking, reading and writing in English every day — technology should support learning, not replace it.

KaanSo, for our project, we have to describe the ideal use of technology in the classroom. Where should we start?
SudeI think the script will be written by us together, and then it can be acted out in class.
KaanGood idea. I'll be the teacher role — I can explain how an interactive whiteboard is used.
SudeOK, and I'll be the student who uses a tablet to research online. Should the classroom also have a robot assistant?
KaanYes! Robots will be used to help students who need extra support, I think. Although it sounds futuristic, some schools already use them.
SudeNice. Because our teacher wants clear roles, let's write down exactly who says what.
KaanSure. I'll organise the notes myself tonight and send them to you.
SudePerfect. Let's rehearse together after school tomorrow, before the deadline on Friday.
GuideWelcome to the Future Classroom exhibition! Here you can see the tools that may be used in schools in the next ten years.
ElifWow, is that a hologram? It looks like a real 3D map floating in the air!
GuideYes, holograms like this could be used to teach geography or science without any books at all.
ElifThat's amazing. And what about that small machine over there?
GuideThat's a classroom robot. Although it can't replace a teacher, it can be used to help students who work at a different pace.
ElifBecause it uses artificial intelligence, can it check my writing itself?
GuideExactly! It corrects simple mistakes itself and shows the student a clearer explanation.
ElifThis has given me so many ideas for our technology project. Thank you!

Walk around the class and ask your classmates questions with Do you…?, Can you…? and Have you ever…? to find someone who matches each sentence about classroom technology. Write their name next to the sentence.
With a partner, act out a short presentation for the performance project: one of you is a student and the other is a teacher in an ideal future classroom. Describe the tools you use and how technology helps you learn.
Write a short guide for new students titled 'Using Our Classroom Technology Responsibly'. Include at least two rules with the passive voice (will be / must be / can be + past participle) and one sentence with a connecting word.
Write the script for the performance project: 'Technological Classroom Tools, Learning with Technology, and Future Classrooms.' Describe the ideal use of technology in the classroom, the roles of students and teachers, and the tools used. Write at least two lines for each role (student and teacher), using at least two of this theme's grammar points.
