What happens to the verb with he/she/it? How do we make it negative and ask a question?
Look at the Notice sentences again. Complete the rule with the words in the box.
Well done! You found the rule yourself. Now let's use it.
Use the cues to write true sentences about people's appearance and personality. Look at the example first.
✓ My sister has curly hair.
Kerem doesn't like loud parties.
We have the same eye colour.
Does my grandad wear glasses?
My friends don't worry about fashion.
Elif gets on well with everyone.
Write about your own appearance and personality. Say what you look like, one adjective for your personality, and one thing you don't do.
We use the Simple Present for facts about people's appearance, personality, and things that are generally true. Add -s/-es with he/she/it. Negative: don't/doesn't + base verb. Question: Do/Does + subject + base verb?
TRSimple Present; insanların dış görünüşünü, karakter özelliklerini ve genel gerçekleri anlatmak için kullanılır. He/she/it ile fiile -s/-es eklenir. Olumsuzda don't/doesn't + yalın fiil; soruda Do/Does başa gelir.
We use it to talk about what someone looks like, their character, and their habits.
TRBir kişinin nasıl göründüğünü, karakterini ve alışkanlıklarını anlatırken kullanırız.
Use 'has', not 'have', with he/she/it.
TRHe/she/it ile 'have' yerine 'has' kullanılır.
Use doesn't with he/she/it, not don't.
TRHe/she/it ile doesn't kullanılır, don't değil.
How do we form the Present Progressive? What do we add to the verb?
Look at the Notice sentences again. Complete the rule with the words in the box.
Well done! You found the rule yourself. Now let's use it.
Use the cues to write true sentences about what people are wearing or doing right now. Look at the example first.
✓ Zeynep is wearing a stripy dress.
The boys are trying on new trainers.
I'm not wearing my school uniform.
Are you wearing your new jacket?
My friends aren't talking about fashion right now.
Mert is getting dressed for the party.
Look around you (or think about now). Write 3-4 sentences about what you and your classmates are wearing today.
We use the Present Progressive for actions happening now, at the moment of speaking (am/is/are + verb-ing). It often goes with now, right now, look!, at the moment.
TRPresent Progressive; şu anda, konuşma sırasında olan eylemleri anlatmak için kullanılır (am/is/are + fiil-ing). Genellikle 'now', 'right now', 'look!', 'at the moment' gibi zaman ifadeleriyle kullanılır.
We use it to describe what someone is wearing or doing right now.
TRBir kişinin şu anda ne giydiğini ya da ne yaptığını anlatırken kullanılır.
Don't forget the auxiliary am/is/are before the -ing verb.
TRam/is/are eksik bırakılmamalı.
Add -ing to the verb after am/is/are.
TRFiile -ing eklenmeli.
Which sentences describe habits and general facts? Which describe what's happening right now?
Look at the Notice sentences again. Complete the rule with the words in the box.
Well done! You found the rule yourself. Now let's use it.
Choose the correct tense (Simple Present or Present Progressive) for each situation. Look at the example first.
✓ Deniz usually wears trainers.
Right now, Deniz is wearing smart shoes for the interview.
My mum usually doesn't like stripy clothes.
At the moment, my mum is trying on a spotted dress.
Do you usually get dressed quickly?
Write two sentences about yourself: one with the Simple Present about your usual style, and one with the Present Progressive about what you are wearing today.
The Simple Present describes habits, general facts and things that happen regularly (with usually, always, every day). The Present Progressive describes actions happening right now, at the moment of speaking (with now, at the moment, right now, look!).
TRSimple Present alışkanlıkları, genel gerçekleri ve düzenli olan şeyleri anlatır (usually, always, every day gibi zaman zarflarıyla). Present Progressive ise şu anda, konuşma anında olan eylemleri anlatır (now, at the moment, right now, look!).
We use this contrast to separate someone's usual style or habits (Simple Present) from what they are wearing or doing right now (Present Progressive).
TRBir kişinin genel giyim tarzını/alışkanlığını (Simple Present) ile o anda ne giydiğini/yaptığını (Present Progressive) ayırt etmek için kullanılır.
'Look!' signals now, so use the Present Progressive.
TR'Look!' şu anı gösterir, Present Progressive gerekir.
'Like' is a state verb — it doesn't usually take -ing.
TR'Like' bir durum fiilidir (state verb), genellikle -ing almaz.
Simple Present (usually, every day) alışkanlık; Present Progressive (now, at the moment) şu an oluyor. 'Like', 'have' (sahiplik), 'want' gibi durum fiilleri genelde -ing almaz: 'I like it' doğru, 'I am liking it' yanlıştır.
How do we show that something belongs to someone? What question do we ask to find out?
Look at the Notice sentences again. Complete the rule with the words in the box.
Well done! You found the rule yourself. Now let's use it.
Use the cues to write sentences with possessive 's, possessive pronouns or Whose…? Look at the example first.
✓ That's Zeynep's jacket.
Whose trainers are these?
They're Kerem's.
This scarf is mine, and that one is yours.
That's the boys' changing room.
Whose is this stripy jumper?
Write three sentences using 's, a possessive pronoun, and Whose…? about clothes or things in your classroom.
We add 's to a singular noun to show possession, and just ' to a plural noun ending in -s (the boys'). Possessive pronouns (mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs) replace a noun so we don't repeat it. We use Whose…? to ask who something belongs to.
TRBir şeyin kime ait olduğunu göstermek için tekil isimlere 's, çoğul -s ile biten isimlere ise sadece ' eklenir (the boys'). Possessive pronouns (mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs) isim tekrarını önler. Whose…? sorusu 'kimin' anlamına gelir ve sahiplik sorar.
We use this to say or ask who an item of clothing or a belonging belongs to.
TRBir eşyanın (kıyafet, çanta vb.) kime ait olduğunu söylerken ya da sorarken kullanılır.
Don't use 'the' before a possessive with a name.
TRÖzel isimlerden önce 'the' kullanılmaz.
Put the noun right after Whose: Whose trainers are these?
TRWhose'dan sonra isim doğru sırada gelmeli.
How does the question tag change after a positive sentence? And after a negative sentence?
Look at the Notice sentences again. Complete the rule with the words in the box.
Well done! You found the rule yourself. Now let's use it.
Add the correct question tag to each sentence. Look at the example first.
✓ You like this outfit, don't you?
Zeynep doesn't wear glasses, does she?
You're wearing your new trainers today, aren't you?
He isn't trying on the jacket, is he?
Your sister has curly hair, doesn't she?
Write three sentences about a classmate with a question tag (about their appearance, clothes or personality), and check with a partner.
A question tag is a short question added to the end of a sentence, usually to check information. A positive sentence takes a negative tag, and a negative sentence takes a positive tag. The tag matches the auxiliary verb (do/does, am/is/are) and the subject.
TRQuestion tag, cümlenin sonuna eklenen ve genellikle bir şeyi doğrulamak için sorulan kısa bir sorudur. Olumlu cümleden sonra olumsuz tag, olumsuz cümleden sonra olumlu tag gelir. Tag, cümledeki yardımcı fiile (do/does, am/is/are) ve özneye göre değişir.
We use question tags to check information or keep a conversation going, especially when talking about appearance, clothes and personality.
TRBir bilgiyi doğrulamak ya da sohbeti sürdürmek için, özellikle görünüş, kıyafet ve kişilik hakkında konuşurken kullanılır.
A positive sentence needs a negative tag.
TROlumlu cümleden sonra olumsuz tag gelir.
A negative sentence needs a positive tag.
TROlumsuz cümleden sonra olumlu tag gelir.

Özgün metin ve anlama soruları.
My name is Aslı and I want to tell you about my best friend, Zeynep. We are in the same class, and we get on well with each other. Zeynep is fourteen years old, and she has long curly brown hair and big brown eyes.
Zeynep isn't very tall, but she is quite slim and always looks stylish. She usually wears comfortable clothes, like jeans and a stripy jumper, but today she is wearing a spotted dress for a school photo.
As for her personality, Zeynep is very cheerful and generous. She always shares her lunch with me, and she never gets angry, even when things go wrong. She's also hard-working — she studies every evening after school.
Zeynep isn't shy at all. She loves talking to new people, and she gets on well with everyone in our class. The only thing is, she can be a little stubborn — when she decides something, she doesn't change her mind easily!
I'm really lucky to have a friend like Zeynep. She always makes me laugh, and I know I can trust her with anything.

A fact file is a short text that gives information about a person. At the end of Theme 3, you are going to interview a classmate and write a fact file about them, so let's look at a good example first.
This is Deniz's fact file, written by his classmate Mert: 'Deniz is fifteen years old. He is tall and has short straight hair and dark brown eyes. He usually wears casual clothes, like a hoodie and trainers, because he thinks they are comfortable.'
Mert continues: 'Deniz's personality is easy to describe — he is friendly, cheerful and very generous. He always helps his classmates with their homework, and he gets on well with everyone in our year. He isn't shy at all!'
Notice how Mert uses the Simple Present for facts (he is, he wears) and clear vocabulary for appearance and personality. He also organises the fact file into two parts: appearance first, then personality.
When you write your own fact file, remember to interview your classmate carefully, take notes, and use a mix of appearance and personality words. Don't forget to check your grammar before you present it to the class!

Öğrendiklerini konuşarak ve yazarak kullan.
Think of a classmate without saying their name. Answer your partner's yes/no questions about appearance and personality until they guess who it is.
With a partner, practise interviewing each other with the questions you will use for your real Fact File interview later this theme.
After interviewing a classmate outside class, write their Fact File. Describe their appearance and personality clearly, using facts from your interview.
Using the information from your classmate's Fact File, design a 'Wanted' poster for them: describe their appearance and personality so the class can guess who it is, without writing their name.
